This lesson discusses each individual component found inside a computer so that you can familiarise yourself with a modern system and make informed decisions as to the configuration required for a computer that you may want to attach to a network.

Lesson 5 - Installing a Network, Installing Server 2003 and Setting up a Domain Controller

Determining network requirements and purchasing/installing equipment and software

Preparing the hard disk drive - partitions and volumes - RAID - dual boot drives
Installing Server 2003 - Static I. P. addresses
Installing a DHCP server

Lesson 6 - Setting up a Client/Server Network

Lesson 8 - Detailed Network Troubleshooting Procedures

Three different network scenarios with a 56K modem attached
Five different network scenarios with an ADSL modem attached
Four different network scenarios with a cable modem attached.
Three different network scenarios with a wireless system attached.
Issues specific to client/server networks.
Lesson 9 - Performance monitoring tools and miscellaneous topics

Task manager and Performance Monitoring with Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7
System Monitor with Server 2003
Creating performance logs
System alerts
Viewing event logs
Ethernet over Power (EoP) adaptors
Hardware Firewalls
The binary and hexadecimal numbering systems
Comprehensive glossary of networking terms
Note that it would be an advantage (although not essential) if you had a computer that you can install server 2003 on to,
or even two computers that you can install both peer to peer and client/server networks on to. You will be shown how to
set up a dual boot computer during the course.
Two working computers will be essential in order to carry out the practical work, and obtain the accredited certificate.
