  • Lesson 2 - Networking Fundamentals - Peer to Peer

    This lesson covers the following aspects:

    • Network adaptors, cables and connectors.

    • Hubs, switches and routers

    • Setting up a peer to peer network using a switch and Windows

    • Mapping to a network hard drive

    • Connecting a printer to the network

    • Sharing a printer connected to a local port

    • Setting up a network printer via a switch

    • Setting up a print server

  • Lesson 4 - Network Maintenance, TCP/IP, Basic Network Troubleshooting

    Topics include:-

    • Location, access to, and control of network equipment

    • Hardware maintenance, help desks, site maps, data backup schedules

    • Basic troubleshooting, cable testers, ping, ipconfig.

    • A complete description of TCP/IP

    • I. P. addresses, subnet mask, default gateway, subnets

  • Lesson 7 - Network Maintenance Tools

    The first part of this lesson takes a detailed look at managed switches

    and then takes you through a suite of useful software and hardware tools

    available in Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7 and Server 2003 that will help you to diagnose and locate network problems. They include:-

    • Installing default 56K modem drivers

    • Checking hardware via Device manager

    • Checking the CMOS settings

    • Installing or replacing a network adaptor

    • Enabling a disabling the Windows firewall

    • The DOS ping and ipconfig commands

    • The Internet connection sharing wizard

    • Checking the TCP/IP settings

    • Installing an ADSL modem/router

    • Setting up a router for a cable modem

    • Installing a cable modem

    • Installing a modem/router/wireless combination

    • Checking the workgroup name on a peer to peer network

    Note that it would be an advantage (although not essential) if you had a computer that you can install server 2003 on to,

    or even two computers that you can install both peer to peer and client/server networks on to. You will be shown how to

    set up a dual boot computer during the course.

 

    Two working computers will be essential in order to carry out the practical work, and obtain the accredited certificate.
